1. What is hookah called in different languages?

  • English: Hookah

  • Spanish: narguile or pipe turca

  • French: Narguile

  • Farsi: Ghelyoon (Ghelyaan)

  • Arabic: Shisha or Argile

2. I'm not getting enough smoke, what am I doing wrong?

The most general reason is your hookah is not air tight. Double check the connection between
the metal stem and glass base, metal stem and the hose and metal stem and clay bowl. This
could be the rubbers here could be broken or torn. Use Arabian Nights Rubbers to have a longer
and enjoyable life to you Hookah.

The other reason could be that you do not have enough charcoal on the clay bowl.
Also, make sure there is only 1-2 inches of water above the stem line. If there is too much or too
little water in the hookah it will not smoke properly.

Make sure your Chillum is not clogged. Sometimes the flavor gets stuck in the holes of the clay bowl.
Make the hole in aluminum foil the right way. Make sure you don’t press the flavor in the
hookah head (rather sprinkle the flavor in the chillum instead of pressing the flavor to leave
space in its gap). Also make enough number right size holes (usually 3 or 4 rounds). Thus we
recommend you use Arabian Nights Aluminum Foil to make the smoke smooth.
Pack the flavor in an airtight container after removing the required amount.

3. The smoke is harsh, what am I doing wrong?

The most likely reason is that you have too many charcoals on your chillum. Remove some
charcoals and if it is still harsh than that means you burnt the flavor and will have to refill a new
bowl. Another problem could be too many/ too big holes poked in to the aluminum foil. We
suggest using SOEX charcoal tablets and Arabian Night’s Aluminum Foils to avoid burning and
help you to get the best smoke without any hassel.

4. What size bowl should I buy ?

Size of the hookah bowl depends mostly on the type of the hookah that you use. Obviously
smaller hookahs cannot handle large bowls and small bowls might not fit on large hookahs. Size
of the bowl also changes the amount of smoke you get out of the hookah. Smaller bowls usually
give more smoke, but burn faster. Large bowls usually give less smoke (which you can increase it
by putting a second coal beside the first one) and burn longer (use more flavor).

5. How long should each blow last?

The average bowl with two to three smokers should last anywhere from 45 minutes to one
hour.

6. What flavor should I buy?

There are many different flavor brands in the market. The most used brand is AFZAL. It has
a very thick and continuous smoke. Basically there are two important characteristics that
you should look for in a flavor. The shiner & the juicer the flavor the better it smokes. That is
because shine & juice means it has more molasses. AFZAL has 49 flavors where you will find all
of it and you will love its unique flavors... You can also mix a lot of flavors to make new flavors.

7. What coal should I buy?

Generally speaking, there are two types of coals: Fast burning & natural. As the name indicates,
fast burning coals are made to start up fast (usually 20 seconds of flaming them with lighter sets
them on). The fast burning coals often add wanted flavors to the flavor. You can try our SOEX
charcoals and experience the best smoke.

8. What kind of charcoals should I buy?

We recommend that you use smokeless/ odorless charcoals that have silver coating around
it for easy lighting. SOEX charcoal tablets available in 33mm and 40mm sizes to give you an
odorless and customized smoke to your Hookah.

9. How should I light the charcoal?

We recommend you use a regular kitchen stove (electric) to light our SOEX Charcoals. Simply
place them directly on the burner and leave them there until they are glowing red. This usually
takes around 2 minutes. If you have a gas stove, it is a still more tricky to balance the coals over
the flames, but it works the same way. If you do not have a stove available, you can also use a
regular lighter to ignite the charcoals. Hold a piece with yours tongs (carefully, they may get hot)
and light until just one end is glowing. As you continue to smoke your hookah, you will want to
add more charcoal approximately every 15 minutes. Since this is self igniting coals, you can just
place a new pipe atop the already burning coal.
You can save all this hassle by using our SOEX charcoals which ignite instantly and lasts long.

10. How about using the pre-holed metal covers for the chillum?

Absolute NO! They let too much oxygen in. They absorb a large amount of the coal’s heat and
don’t transfer it well. Thus we recommend you to use Arabian Nights’ Aluminum foils which
release just enough amounts of heat and air to give you the best smoke and taste.

11. How should I clean my hookah?

Take every part of the hookah apart. Clean your hose by blowing through it after use or rinse
the hose with water and once a week or every other week, put the hose in a bucket of hot water
overnight (NOTE: DO NOT CLEAN YOUR HOSE WITH WATER UNLESS IT WAS SOLD AS AWASHABLE HOSE). Wash the rest of the hookah parts. You can also use the hookah cleaning kits. Never use chemicals to clean your hookah. Maintaining a clean hookah is necessary for
providing an enjoyable smoke every time.

12. How many hoses should a preferable Hookah have?

We suggest one hose hookahs. They are easy to use and easy to maintain. Obviously, more than
one hose hookah is for people who want to smoke in groups. But you have to make sure that
the ones who are not smoking hold the end of the hose so air doesn’t go through.

13. Is smoking hookah safer than smoking cigarette?

There are many papers on this subject that you can find. But from what I understand, you get
much more smoke from a hookah than a cigarette; however the smoke is not nearly as harmful
(less nicotine) as the cigarette smoke. Smoking hookah is obviously not good for your health, but
since hookah is more of a social activity which is usually done two or three times a week, it is
probably safer than cigarettes.
